I Dr Dr si stanno facendo sempre più conoscere nella scena alternative rock britannica. La band ha recentemente pubblicato il singolo “Doomscroll (Hellbent Collective)” in collaborazione con Bohmen, Beam Noir e Sugarstone. Danny ci ha raccontato qualcosa in più su com’è nato questo featuring, sulle influenze musicali del gruppo e sul processo creativo dietro le loro canzoni. Ci ha anche fatto qualche spoiler sui futuri progetti della band…

Ciao e benvenuto su Rockoon. Prima di tutto, come stai?

Attualmente sono sdraiato sul pavimento a mangiare un pacchetto di pringles, quindi tutto sommato abbastanza bene.

Cominciamo dall’inizio. Come vi siete conosciuti e avete iniziato a fare musica insieme?

Siamo un supergruppo di band indie post-rottura, che si è trasformato in una band di power ranger rock superpotente e mutevole.

Qual è il significato del vostro nome DR DR?

È l’acronimo di Daniel Radcliffe’s Dissertation Results (è stato promosso a pieni voti).

Per le persone che non vi conoscono, come descriveresti la vostra musica?

Un assediatore di orchi il cui compito è quello di precipitarsi al cancello del Fosso di Helm con una torcia per accendere l’esplosivo.

Come scrivete le vostre canzoni? Puoi spiegare il processo creativo che c’è dietro?

Non abbiamo un metodo prestabilito, a volte scriviamo prima i riff, a volte i testi, le idee vengono da tutte le parti. Scriviamo in continuazione, quindi non ci facciamo troppa attenzione.

E i testi? Sono influenzati dalle vostre esperienze personali?

Sì, ma anche no. Mi piace mescolare le mie esperienze personali con storie di fantasia, di solito le cose che accadono nella mia vita ispirano la narrativa.

Il vostro singolo “Doomscroll (Hellbent Collective)” è una collaborazione con Bohmen, Beam Noir e Sugarstone. Come è nata questa idea e come è stato per voi lavorare insieme?

Si pensa che i musicisti siano in competizione tra loro, ma noi ci conosciamo tutti da anni, siamo cresciuti nello stesso circuito, quindi per noi ha senso lavorare insieme e supportarci a vicenda. Ci piace collaborare con le persone, ispira nuove idee e ti porta in direzioni che normalmente non percorreresti.

C’è un altro artista con cui vi piacerebbe collaborare?

Peter Jackson.

E quali sono gli artisti che hanno influenzato maggiormente la vostra musica?

QOTSA, NIN, Cleopatrick, Royal Blood

Quali sono i vostri progetti per il futuro? Pubblicherete presto un album?

Il nostro prossimo singolo “Vultures” sarà l’ultima traccia e il titolo del nostro EP, poi abbiamo un sacco di cose pronte da fare, ci servono solo gli euro.

Non vediamo l’ora di ascoltarlo allora! Voi avete anche uno stile molto cool. Quanto pensi che sia importante per una band il suo look?

Grazie mille. Lo stile è importante per noi, ma la musica è più importante.

Let’s start from the very beginning. How did you know each other and start doing music together?

We’re a supergroup of post-covid indie band break-ups, morphed together into a super mighty-morphing power ranger rock band.

What’s the meaning of your name DR DR?

It stands for Daniel Radcliffe’s Dissertation Results (he passed with flying colours)

For the people who don’t know you, how would you describe your music?

You’re an orc beserker and it’s your job to rush the gate at Helm’s Deep with a torch to light the explosives.

How do write your songs? Can you explain the creative process behind them?

We don’t really have a set way, sometimes we write riffs first, sometimes it’s the lyrics, ideas come from all over. We’re constantly writing, so we’re not too precious about it.

What about the lyrics? Are they influenced by your personal experience?

Yes, and also, no. I like to mix my personal experience with fictional stories, usually things that happen in my life will inspire the fiction.

Your single “Doomscroll (Hellbent Collective)” is a collaboration with Bohmen, Beam Noir and Sugarstone. How was this idea born and how was fo you to work together?

Musicians are made to think that they’re all in competition with each other, but we’ve all known each other for years, grown up on the same circuit, so for us it just makes sense to work together and support each other. We love collaborating with people, it inspires new ideas and takes you down directions you wouldn’t normally go down.

Which are your plans for the future? Will you release an album soon?

Our next single Vultures will be the last and title track of our EP, then we’ve got loads ready to go, we just need the Euros.
