Gli Skinned, composti da Alejandra Diez, Elisa Trimarchi e Joshua Hayward, hanno da poco pubblicato il loro EP d’esordio “NO” (leggi la nostra recensione qui). In occasione della sua uscita noi di Rockoon abbiamo avuto modo di scambiare quattro chiacchiere con il trio, che ci ha raccontato qualcosa in più a riguardo e su come sia nato il progetto. Non mancano anche i piani per il futuro…

Ciao ragazzi, benvenuti su Rockoon. Prima di tutto, come state?

Joshua: Benissimo, i treni non funzionano e sembra che tutta Londra sia in fiamme.

Avete da poco pubblicato il vostro primo EP “NO”, vi va di parlarcene in poche parole?

Elisa: No, no e no.

Prima di pubblicare l’EP la vostra musica non era sulle piattaforme digitali. Come mai questa scelta?

Joshua: Semplicemente non avevamo ancora registrato nulla, non vendevamo nemmeno cassette o altro.

Avete suonato l’EP dal vivo il 5 settembre al The Waiting Room, come ha reagito il pubblico?

Alejandra: Ad essere sinceri, la reazione è stata fantastica. Come hai detto, non avevamo pubblicato alcuna musica su nessuna piattaforma, quindi questa è stata la prima volta che abbiamo suonato con il nostro EP disponibile. Ogni concerto è una piccola festa, quindi questa volta è stata una doppia celebrazione.

Ascoltando l’EP mi ha ricordato un po’ l’energia dei Sonic Youth. È stata una delle band che vi ha ispirato? So che Joshua è un loro grande fan.

Elisa: Non credo che siamo stati direttamente ispirati da loro, o da qualcun altro, il suono è più che altro il risultato di ciò che accade quando noi tre ragazzi abbiamo la possibilità di stare insieme in una stanza. Ma sono contenta che ci sia qualcosa che ti ricordi i Sonic Youth, dato che ovviamente tutti noi amiamo la loro musica. Little Trouble Girl mi è rimasta in testa oggi.

Sul vostro account Instagram avete definito la band come “Furious two and a half girl-piece, no one welcome” (Due furiose ragazze e mezza, nessuno è il benvenuto). Vi va di spiegarci il motivo di questa definizione?

Alejandra: In origine era “Furious two girl-piece…” (Furiose due ragazze…) e da quando Josh è entrato nella band abbiamo dovuto onorarlo in qualche modo. Suonare è il nostro metodo preferito per esorcizzare furiosamente i nostri demoni.

Avete iniziato come duo, poi Joshua si è unito alla band. Come è iniziata la collaborazione con lui?

Joshua: Mi è stato chiesto di produrre alcune registrazioni e ho risposto che avrei preferito suonare la chitarra. A condizione che non avessimo mai avuto un bassista.

Come vi siete conosciute invece voi due?

Elisa: Io e Alejandra ci siamo conosciuti bene a casa del nostro caro amico Rhys. Alejandra ha messo un disco di Martin Gore e io le ho detto che mi piaceva molto, poi ci siamo presentate e lei mi ha invitato a casa sua (credo il giorno dopo) per fare un po’ di musica.

Al momento avete suonato solo in Inghilterra. Suonerete anche in altri paesi in futuro?

Alejandra: Oh, siamo una band che ama viaggiare. Ora che la nostra musica è uscita, il mondo intero può tremare.

Hi guys, welcome to Rockoon. First of all, how are you?

Joshua: Fabulous, the trains aren’t running and it feels like all of London is on fire.

You just released your first EP “NO”, would you like to talk about it in a few words?

Elisa: No, no, and no.

Before the EP, your music wasn’t on digital platforms. What’s the reason behind this choice?

Joshua: We just hadn’t put any recorded music out, it’s not like we were selling tapes or anything.

You played the EP live on the 5th of september at The Waiting Room, how did the audience react?

Alejandra: It was a great reaction to be fair. As you said, we didn’t have any music out on any platforms so this was the first time we played with our EP being available. Every gig is a little party, so this time felt like a double celebration.

While listening to the EP it reminded me a little bit of the energy of Sonic Youth. Was it one of the bands that inspired you? I know that Joshua is a big fan of them.

Elisa: I don’t think we were directly inspired by them, or any one, the sound is more so a product of what happens when us three children are allowed to be in a room together. But I am glad there is a thread of Sonic Youth in there, as we do all like their music, of course. Little trouble girl has been in my head today.

On your Instagram account you defined the band as “Furious two and a half girl-piece, no one welcome”. Would you like to explain the reason behind this definition?

Alejandra: Originally was “Furious two girl-piece…” and since Josh joined the band, we had to honour it somehow. Playing is our preferred method to furiously exorcise our demons.

You started as a duo, then Joshua joined the band. How did the collaboration with him start?

Joshua: I was asked to produce a few recordings and I countered that I’d rather play guitar. On the condition that we were never to have a bass player.

How have you other two met?

Elisa: Alejandra and I met properly at our good friend Rhys’s house. Alejandra played some Martin Gore and I told her I loved it, then we held hands, and then she invited me to hers (I think the next day) to make some music.

At the moment you just played in England. Will you play also in other countries in the future?

Alejandra: Oh, we’re 100% a trip focused band. Now our music is out the whole world can tremble.

Would you like to leave a message to our readers to convince them to listen to your music?

Alejandra: We leave that to you.
